Chi Running® and Chi Walking® combine the mind/body awareness, core strength, and peripheral muscle relaxation of disciplines like T’ai Chi, yoga, and Pilates with the cardio-aerobic benefits of running and walking. Developed by nationally ranked ultra marathoner Danny Dreyer, the Chi Running® and Chi Walking® techniques focus on improving posture and biomechanics to greatly reduce the risk of injuries, aches and pains, and soreness. At the same time, the techniques provide a framework to practice simultaneously focusing the mind, engaging the core, and relaxing the rest of the body. These skills will benefit you in all aspects of your life, not just in your running or walking program. The Chi Running® book and DVD were released in 2004, and the Chi Walking® book and DVD were released in 2006. Revised and fully updated versions of the Chi Running® book and DVD were released in 2009.
The Chi Running® and Chi Walking® techniques can be beneficial to anyone, but they can be particularly of value to:
·Long-time runners or walkers who have scaled back or quit because of injury; ·Competitive runners and established fitness runners/walkers interested in improving their form and performance; ·Beginning runners/fitness walkers who want to learn proper technique; ·Practitioners of yoga, Pilates, or martial arts looking for a complementary cardio-aerobic activity.
